Robot Unicorn Attack Heavy Metal

The crew at Adult Swim said "make it METAL"
I said "no problem" cranked some Bolt Thrower, opened the source file (the original Robot Unicorn Attack) and began the reskinning
(reskinning such a 'metal' word)
This is the result:

title card

screen shot (1)
screen shot (2)

concept sketches:

dolphin (get em' cthulhu!)

fairies are now demons (what else right?)

star barrier (the pentagram won, thank almighty satan) None of the others looked good at the rate the screen was moving.

platform sample

Unicorn redesign: Nordic vs. Sci-fi is pretty metal.

background and foreground pieces:

Obviously the horse headed Lucifer needs a place to call his own and relax.

I would have taken more care with the top of this (one of two) if I had more time. I also had to (battle) axe the lava flow for optimization purposes.

Semi-final (makeshift) screenshot sent to client before building it into the original game engine. This level of color and detail in this image didn't make it to the game.

side note: I also designed the title screens/buttons etc. (granted they already had a solid foundation) So basically this was my whole gig <smug smile> The only thing they didn't let me do was pick out the in-game song which was a bummer. I would have felt like I really owned the whole project. I thought their choice of the track from Blind Guardian was a little too flashy and pretentious. I pitched about 12 metal bands that have a 'metal for metal sake' tongue-in-cheek kind of sound that galloped in a fun way along with the pace of the game. none of which they agreed with.
Could have been any track from 'Early Man' or 'The Lord Weird Slough Feg'... just sayin'...

Play it here!
